Signs of quarter life crisis have started manifesting recently, which means I'm getting old and I'm getting sad. I really want that to change, at least the getting sad part since I can no longer do anything about my age.
I was told that making a to-do list is depressing as it will only make you sad if you don't accomplish them. But dreaming is not that bad and setting goals to achieve is actually a good start off point for everyone. Someone advised me that to set goals one must write it on either past tense or present perfect, saying that by that time it is already finished or already in process so that there is a feel of accomplishment and positive thinking, which is good unlike if you write your goals on a future tense its as if you are setting things that will burden you in the future.
So here are the 25 things that happened by the time I'm 25:
1. I have already gone to dates.
2. I have a boyfriend.
3. I already know how to drive.
4. I already have 6 digits worth of savings in my bank account.
5. I have been to at least 5 places in the Philippines I have never been to (i.e. la union, pinatubo, zambales, cebu, sagada, etc)
6. I went to Ilocos alone.
7. I have gone surfing.
8. I have gone wakeboarding.
9. I have been to a foreign country where I don't need to apply for visa.
10. I have been to a foreign country where I have to apply for visa.
11. I have finished reading all the books (theory, literature, essay compilation, photography, etc.) I have acquired since 2006.
12. I am already teaching.
13. I already have a thesis topic in mind that I am working on.
14. I have a serious and active on-line portfolio.
15. I have submitted an entry for a national workshop.
16. I have auditioned for a role on a play/ an independent film.
17. I have recorded (as in personal recording) ten songs that I can sing and play in the guitar.
18. I know how to cook Tom Yum
19. I know how to cook Pho.
20. I have been regularly exercising, either jogging or wall climbing at TS.
21. I have been maintaining my natural waves.
22. I have volunteered to serve in orphanages in Metro Manila.
23. I have been sent to volunteer for the AAP program of the UPLB Pahinungod.
24. I have a good health.
25. I am happy.

Mahal kita e.
Kaso ano 'to? Anong ginagawa mo? Pinapahirapan mo lang ang sarili mo, ako, kaming lahat. Nahihirapan na tayong lahat!
Pero ang masakit nun, hindi naman kita maiiwan e. Kasi sa'to ako pinanganak at nabuhay.

ErwinRafael from peyups.com posted this and we might as well give it a try diba?
Eto trip trip lang. NASA has entered for public polling the naming of NODE 3 ng International Space Station. There are four options (Earthrise, Legacy, Serenity and Venture) but there is also a WRITE IN option. Ginamit ito nung komedyanteng si Stephen Colbert kaya mapapansin niyo Colbert yung number one write-in suggestion. Hahaha
Now we have this knack for winning online polls sa mga beauty contest and in campaigning for the New 7 Wonders. Ngayon, tingnan natin kung mamomobilize natin ang mga Eraserheads fans to have part of the space station named Eraserheads para international talaga ang dating ng International Space Station.
Go to this site:
http://www.nasa.gov/externalflash/name_I SS/index.html
Write ERASERHEADS sa write-in suggestion. 400,000 plus pa lang ang bumoboto.
We can vote once a day up to March 20, 2009.
So there. Not actually forcing you but atleast we can see if we have the chance to name an International space station after the Eraserheads.

Last Night was the happiest night of 2009 so far.
August 30, 2008 when we attended Ultraelectromagnetic Night, and that night was my happiest night of 2008.
The barkadang barikada ng VIP struck back last night. I have office during Saturday and my brother had a practical exam that lasted until 2pm. We met at Katipunan. The gang last concert lack 2 people, Bricci did not attend and Rap got a VIP pass (ikaw na!). So last night was the night shared by Me, Jason, Patty, Hannah and Karla (and you guys though younger than me and though I never see you regularly, except for my brother, are now officially special).
Memorable thing before the concert was that Raimund took a picture of the early comers on the line (hehehe), so I guess we're part of his pictures.
We got in at around 4:30 or 5. We were bored and people are starting to mark their positions (may territoriality sa concert) even at the Gold A. That was the time we decided that we will not move. Wala nang pwedeng magCR! And we really defended our territory until the end. So when we really got bored and had nothing much to talk about while waiting, we played cards. We had two rounds of ungguyan and attempted a round of lucky 9.
When the sun started to set, we were already excited. Just want to skip the part of VJs introduction.
When they showed the Eheads documentary I had extreme goosebumps esp. when they showed the clip of Huling El Bimbo winning in the MTV Music Awards. It was nostalgic. I remember that day I was watching it on television. When the presentor announced Eraserheads back then I was all teary-eyed and jumping and screeming all at the same time (I was young back then). The alphabet down was pretty cool too... and stopping at the letter e is cool as well.
First set was good. At the end of the set I didn't realize that they finished the whole set. Hearing Marcus and Raymund sing was great. We wanted to hear Buddy sing too but he didn't. But it was ok.
Second set was great. I felt all the love despite the mellow and and acoustic versions of their first songs. I LOOOOOOOVE that set. And Marcus is officially the BEST guitarist in the Philippines.
Third set was love! Their tribute to Francis M. and the last set. Best version of Alapaap ever. When they played Minsan my night was officially complete. Huling El Bimbo gave me the goosebumps and left me teary eyed as well. This is the last of it.
When they were all hand in hand after El Bimbo I thought that they would actually give in to the "group hug" request. But group hug or no group hug I believe that the night is all about their love for the music, and we all felt the love and we all felt that last night they were one, they were the 90's band that we all love. When they all bowed to the crowd it was officially over.
People went rushing to the exit. We didn't, mahirap umalis pag galing ka sa barikada. We had to wait for the people to leave so there will be room for us. Then we saw that Buddy went to the stage, then Raimund. Then Raimund said "Gusto niyo pa?" we said yes of course. He then followed, "Tawagin niyo si Marcus" then we cheered for Marcus, then Raims added "Tawagin niyon si Ely," and we cheered for Ely. Ely went up the stage, and the three convened. And Raimund asked us to call Marcus again so we called him again. And when Markus went to the stage we were so happy already. Raimund announced "hindi to kasama sa Set List ah." Ely followed with "Here's three for the road." I was so happy that I thought wow parang gig lang.
And true enough their energy and the love that they have were parang gig lang. The big MOA concert grounds turned into a small space that they have filled us all with love. They played Sembreak, Ligaya and for the last time the memorable Toyang. And even though we could only see 2 inches of Ely, Marcus, Buddy and Raimund, I felt that they were near, I felt as if I were in a small venue gig listening to the college band I love.
I may not be as big of a fan compared to others who were there, but I really love Eraserheads. I never went to a big publicized concert except for the 2 concert of Eraserheads. Heck I wouldn't even buy 3k worth of tickets for other artists. I know that deep inside I love the band. The 4 simple guys who wrote songs of trivial events that happen to every Filipino's life have given me the best night ever last night. I had fun like no other. Last night is the best night. I was contented with the previous concert, and then the band still gave us love and pursued to continue and finish what they started.
I will be a fan of the band as a whole and of the members as individuals forever.

Trying so hard to be productive, I filled some forms in advance because they need to be signed soon (after all deliverables are submitted). But then I finished early. I did the counter checking of names on the guest list for our upcoming event. Then I finished early. I wasn't supposed to do this but I did it eventually, I made a template for a CD cover and CD Label Sticker through Powerpoint, and I finished early.
Not so much to do. And I did all three while doing other stuff on the side (i.e: reading Isabel Allende's Infinite Plan, looking through a Shinhwa thread and browsing my facebook for something new on Muhan Dojeon).
I did all three without any fuzz... as now I'm waiting for that one signed form I have been waiting for since yesterday.

In my previous job I kept on complaining how much time I spend on certain tasks. I complained on how much time I spend in the office doing my work and doing other people's job. I complained on how much I have to learn new things in a span of less than an hour to really finish something.
But now things have drastically changed. It's as if I'm always on a vacation. I only do things that I want to do and do my job whenever called up for it. Most tasks given to me can be completed in less than an hour and most of the time I spend in the office is idle. And now, I'm starting to complain.
Perhaps I shouldn't really complain since I've longed for a non-stressful job as this is. Perhaps I should actually make the most of my time in the office reading or finding out something new in the net, or writing perhaps.
Still I wonder when I had no time I felt really bad and now I have all the time I have waited, and I'm here for just two weeks, that I'm starting to feel bad.
Perhaps it's the environment. It really is hard to be alone with no much to do in a room for 8 hours.
I might as well bring a book tomorrow and see if I finish reading it before the end of the week.

Part of me is saying that this is all Ashley's fault because she was the one who introduced me to the hilarious clips of Korean shows that I can find in youtube, part of me is thinking this could also be my fault since have I still be employed at you know where I wouldn't have the time to be like this. But what the hell, let me unleash the Korean Fan Girl inside of me (no matter how embarrassing it is).
Let's not talk about Shinhwa, since I know a lot are blogging about them already, and I wouldn't have known Shinhwa if they weren't guests in the show that I am a bit of an addict right now. I love Muhan Dojeon/ Infinity Challenge. They never fail to crack me up in my boring days. I have seen several episodes but my favorites are their Seoul Tour (when Haha was still there) and Money Bag Challenge (when JunJin replaced Haha).
But just today, Muhan Dojeon made me cry. Haha left the show for National Service (Korean men are required to do mandatory national service to the army, same reason why Lee Donggun, yeah Lovers in Paris guy, was off the air, but it's a different story). For their farewell surprise, the show staged a Guerilla Concert for Haha. The Muhan Dojeon stages very hard challenges every episode, so hard that it's nearly impossible to achieve. For Haha's farewell ep, they gave him a set and venue for the guerilla concert but only gave them more or less 6 hours to invite viewers around Seoul.
The venue had 7,000 seats, and the guys betted on filling 2,500 seats but it turns out that Haha is really loved by Koreans (and by me of course though I wasn't there).
Anyway, I love Haha because he has the funniest character in Non-stop 3, and I love his character there. I have seen it when I was younger through Arirang. But he was there for only one season, so...
O well good luck to Haha and all of the other Korean male entertainers serving in the Army.

Paying It Back for Mang Meliton a.k.a "Mang Milton"
Posted by Mike on Dec 26, '08 10:06 PM
Meet Meliton Zamora, a retired University of the Philippines janitor and my hero.
For forty-five years, he swept floors, cleaned up trash, watered plants and did odd jobs at the University.
I met him when I was active with the UP Repertory Company, a theater group based (then) at the third floor lobby of the Arts & Sciences (AS) building. He would sweep and mop the hallway floors in silence, venturing only a nod and a smile whenever I passed him.
Back then, for me he was just one of those characters whom you got acquainted with and left behind as soon as you earned your degree and left the university for some big job in the real world. Someone whose name would probably ring a bell but whose face you'd have a hard time picturing. But for many UP students like me who were hard up and had a difficult time paying their tuition fees, Mang Mel was a hero who gave them the opportunity to finish university and get a big job in the real world.
The year was 1993 and I was on my last semester as a Clothing Technology student. My parents had been down on their luck and were struggling to pay for my tuition fee. I had been categorized as Bracket 9 in the recently implemented Socialized Tuiton and Financial Assistance Program (STFAP). My father had lost his job and to supplement my allowance, I worked part time as a Guest Relations Officer at Sam's Diner (back when the term GRO didn't have shady undertones) and took some odd jobs as a Production Assistant, movie extra and wardrobe mistress.
To be eligible for graduation, I had to enroll in my last three courses and pay my tuition fee. Since my parents didn't have enough money for my matriculation, I applied for a student loan hoping that my one of my Home Economics (HE) professors would take pity on me and sign on as a guarantor for the student loan. But those whom I approached either refused or were not eligible as guarantors. After two unsuccessful weeks of looking for a guarantor, my prospects looked dim, my future dark. And so, there I was, a downtrodden twenty year old with a foggy future, crying in the AS lobby. I only had twenty four hours left to look for a guarantor.
Mang Mel, with a mop in hand, approached me and asked me why I was crying. I told him I had no guarantor for my student loan and will probably not be able to enroll this semester. I had no hopes that he would be able to help me. After all, he was just a janitor. He borrowed my loan application papers and said softly, "Puwede ako pumirma. Empleyado ako ng UP." He borrowed my pen and signed his name. With his simple act of faith, Mang Mel not only saved my day, he also saved my future.
I paid my student loan the summer after that fateful day with Mang Milton and it has been 15 years since then. I am not filthy rich but I do have a good job in the real world that allows me to support my family and eat three meals a day. A few weeks ago, a friend and UP Professor, Daki, told me that Mang Mel recently recorded an album which he sells to supplement his meager retirement pay, I asked another friend, Blaise, who's taking his Master's degree at UP to find out how we could contact Mang Mel. My gesture of gratitude for Mang Mel's altruism has been long overdue. As fate would have it, my friend saw Mang Mel coming out of the shrubbery from behind the UP library, carrying firewood. He got Mang Mel's address and promised him that we would come over to buy his album.
Together with Blaise and my husband Augie, I went to pay Mang Mel a visit last Sunday. Unfortunately, he was out doing a little sideline gardening for a UP professor in Tandang Sora. We were welcomed into their home by his daughter Kit. As she pointed out to a laminated photo of Mang Mel on the wall, she proudly told us that her father did retire with recognition from the University. However, she sadly related to us that many of the students whose loans Mang Mel guaranteed neglected to settle their student loans. After forty-five years of service to the University, Mang Mel was only attributed 171 days of work for his retirement pay because all the unpaid student loans were deducted from his full retirement pay of about 675 days. This seems to me a cruel repayment for his kindness.
This is a cybercall to anyone who did not get to pay their student loans that were guaranteed by Mang Mel. Anytime would be a good time to show Mang Mel your gratitude.
Mang Mel is not asking for a dole out, though I know he will be thankful for any assistance you can give. So I ask those of you who also benefited from Mang Meliton's goodness or for those who simply wish to share your blessings, please do visit Mang Mel and buy his CD (P350 only) at No. 16-A, Block 1, Pook Ricarte, U.P. Campus, Diliman, Quezon City (behind UP International House) or contact his daughter Kit V. Zamora at 0916-4058104

May bumasa ng palad ko na isang Chinese nung nasa Vietnam ako. Sabi niya noon "You will have a strong and prominent career in the." At hanggang sa pag graduate ko inisip ko yun.
Jusme! Eto ba ang senyales ng strong and prominent career? May gulay wag na lang.

In front of Karimadon in Trinoma...
Joan: O Jas papicture ka kay Carmen Soo.
Jas: Ayoko nga, picture lang yan. Buti kung si Robi Domingo yan in person.
Minutes later at the escalator near National Bookstore...
Joan: Jas akin na...(while tagging my arm)
Jas: Alin?
Joan: Robi o.
I froze.
That's what happens whenever I see my crush. (Parang high school lang)

I know that I am not good in reaching goals this year. But I am really thankful for 2008 for unexpected and unplanned things that happened.
(I'm doing this with the help of my semi-used planner)
1. For my Pahinungod Job which is my first job ever. I know I have been there since 1st year college but I have learned more that what I have learned while working. Plus, I get to see my good friend Jexter before he started teaching in Camiguin.
2. For the last NSTP sections that I handled. Even though I only spent three months with them I really am happy that I have facilitated classes for the last time before marching for graduation.
3. For Pagsanjan trip with Iya and Ilia. I am so thankful for the two not only for the sights and the experience, but most of all for the conversations.
4. For the Bicol trip with Mumai and later on Reggie and Ryan, I have explored a new world and learned a lot from this trip. Not to mention that I enjoyed riding a motorcycle on the way to the school. And Mount Mayon... ooh I love Mt. Mayon.
5. For my graduation march, where I went back to LB after my first Over Time at work. Then we stayed at Trace hotel. Finally fulfilled my long term goal of making my father climb the stage on graduation.
6. For my current job, where I learned a lot.
7. For Jolo who actually referred me. I don't know if I should thank him or not! Kidding aside, I'd like to thank him for being an instrument to this learning experience.
8. For Ms. V, Sally, Bubbles and Ashley, who have been there in my way to learn things in the beginning, and later on to Homer, Yammie and Arni, who'd be with me and Ashley as 2009 starts.
9. For my lunch buddies: Pau, Steph and Mike who have always been there for the good and bad times. For the moments we laughed and ranted, even though we weren't teammates. I love you guys.
10. For the Eraserheads reunion concert.
11. For my HP Pavillion Laptop... that Joan uses most of the time.
12. For my Family's good health.
13. For all the friends that I have kept this year
14. For all the other blessings that I received.
I talked to Papa a while ago, and he said that the year was a so-so year, not that good but not that bad as well. I do agree, but as every year that passes me by I believe I have to be thankful for the many blessings that I receive this year.

Had to go over my posts to do this. Here's my to-do list for 2008.

1 March the march for my graduation march. :D
I deserve this, and since I'm working in LB I'll be sure to do this one.
Yes I did! and boy it was fun
2 Go out on dates.
I think I'm of age, so why not start dating this year.
Tough luck I guess...
3 Go to 5 places I've never been before.
I've been to Pagsanjan Falls and Bicol... didn't get to new places on the second half of my year.
4 Have a regular exercise.
Not at all. But I did try Capoeira
5 Get that 26 inch waistline.
Believe it or not I reached 27 and 26.5 inches but not 26 at all.
6 Get a permanent job.
It's either get a new job after finishing the half year contract or renew the half year contract, I just want to be employed whole year round.
Yes I made it!
7 Buy my own camera accessory/ies
It is time to fund my hobby.
I was not able to save enough on this.
8 Play basketball (even just to shoot some hoops) or bowling atleast once a month
Nope, not at all.
9 Read (finish reading) atleast 24 books
I have lost count but I think I finished 11. thought I could get to thirteen this past two weeks but didn't finish.
10 Save money for Graduate School
Nope, no chance to save.
11 Decide which course to take for Graduate School
Not yet decided
12 Go to and buy books in the Annual International Bookfair
To busy that week
13 Finish my Scrapbook
I actually forgot about this
14 Have my laptop g-masked
I'm still thinking about this last one, either this or save up for a new laptop 'coz we had that thing for about five years already.
I have a new one care of papa dear
I have to ponder on my next year goals.

Is a lot like love...
You see, shopping for that one cute shirt you are eyeing for is a lot like falling in-love. Questions in mind of shoppers looking for a shirt are:
1. Does that fit me?
2. Does that fit my budget?
3. Do I need that shirt?
These are similar to:
1. Will we jive?
2. Could I handle having a boyfriend right now?
3. Do I need to be in a relationship right now?
Sometimes, we really mind these questions, but most of the time we don't. Why? Because we tend to get the answers that don't favor us. We want that shirt... or that guy, but it just don't logically fit right. So we tend to buy the shirt, or get into the relationship.
In buying a shirt, making the wrong decision of buying the unfit shirt will give a big pain... in your wallet and in your closet. Imagine spending that much money on something that would just hang on your closet and do nothing. You can't return it. The best thing you can do is sell it in a thrift store for a lower cost of course. But, when you get the wrong choice of getting the wrong relationship, that would be too much complicated. How the hell are you supposed to shove a person away without hurting his/her feelings? Of course you can't sell a man in a thrift store (gee I really hope I can).
